Finding a Grief Counselor

Below are resources we have found are often helpful when searching for a grief counselor.

National and International Resources:

  • Local Hospices or Funeral Homes: Often your local hospice or funeral home will have information about what bereavement services are available near you. They may even be able to offer you services such as support groups and counseling through their organization.
  • Our “Companion” Database: We have a growing referral list of individuals who have graduated from our training courses and earned the Death and Grief Studies Certification. Some of the graduates may not provide direct care, but they may still be able to refer you to grief counselors in their region or area. You can search our “companion” database below. It is searchable by location as well as type of loss. Please feel free to call us at (970) 226-6050 for any questions.

Local Resources:

  • Community Grief Center: For mourners in the Northern Colorado area, we recommend contacting Community Grief Center at (970) 506-4114 or communitygriefcenter.org. They provide services for children, teenagers, and adults, as well as facilitate support groups.
  • 3Hopeful Hearts: For mourners in the Northern Colorado area who have experienced the loss of a child, we recommend contacting 3Hopeful Hearts at www.3hopefulhearts.com or calling (970)430-6136. They offer free grief companionship as well as support groups services and hold events in the community.
  • Judi’s House: For child mourners in the Denver Metro and Northern Colorado area. we recommend contacting Judi’s House at (720)941-0331 or http://www.judishouse.org. They provide grief support services to grieving children, as well as school outreach and training.

At this time, Dr. Wolfelt is unable to see new counseling clients. However, we are here to assist you in getting the support that will help you in your grief journey. We know that sometimes there’s no substitute for a human voice when you have questions. Feel free to contact us at (970) 226-6050. Our office hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Mountain time, Monday through Friday.
